Final War - LTTE confined to 73 square kilometres

Troops have succeeded in confining the LTTE terrorists to 73 square kilometers. Military Spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said the troops are now making inroads into LTTE dominated areas. Addressing newsmen at the Media Centre for National Security, the Brigadier said two Divisions and a Task Force are engaged in operations in these areas. The 53rd Division is carrying out operations South of Puthukudiyiruppu within the limits of the town. Task Force Four after reaching the A-35 Highway, has undertaken operations within the built up area. Troops of the 58th Division are advancing from North of Ampalavanpokkanai towards the East after consolidating their positions West of Puthukuriyiruppu. It has been monitored that civilians are continuing to arrive in the declared Safe Zone. The Military Spokesman revealed that 35,819 civilians had already sought protection of the Security Forces. They are being directed to the welfare camps which meet all their facilities. ITN
