Air Force heroes honored

The Sri Lanka Air Force held the Air Force operation conclusion ceremony at the Katunayake Airbase this morning. It made an outstanding contribution to the operations in eliminating terrorism. Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. On arrival at the Air Force Headquarters, he was welcomed by Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunatilake. The Air Force Chief said they maintained a high morale. Their commitment was high. They advanced and destroyed enemy positions due to bravery and team spirit. The President provided proper and brave leadership. His commitment and guidance motivated them. The Air Force derived its strength due to the Presidents stand. In his address, the Defence Secretary referred to the priceless services discharged by the Air Force in eliminating LTTE terrorism. The Air Force discharged its task with the same intensity during day and night braving inclement weather. He observed that this victory was achieved following the commitment displayed and the leadership provided by the Commander and officers of all ranks. After expressing his gratitude to the valiant war heroes of the Air Force, the Defence Secretary inspected the fighter jets. These included Bell-206, Bell-212, M-17, Antonov-32, C-130, MI-24, F7, Kfir and MIGs. A highlight was the display of the Unmanned Ariel Vehicle for the first time which made a significant contribution to the operations. A model of an aircraft produced in Sri Lanka was presented by the Air Force Chief to the Defence Secretary.
