Final Assault on Wanni: UNP Delusional and Not Accepting LTTE’s Impending Defeat!

LTTE Headquarters in Kilinochchi were bombed by the Sri Lankan forces on Thursday. The army was poised to march on the Kilinochchi town within days if not weeks. UNP’s inability to come to terms with the impending victory of Sri Lanka over the Tigers seemed a pathetic exhibition of self-delusional stubbornness, indicative of outright disloyalty to Sri Lanka. Does the UNP secretly believe that the Tigers are about to turn tables on the armed forces? Do they acknowledge that to all intense and purposes, Sri Lankan forces are now in control of the East, Jaffna and a large section of the Wanni at the same time, a remarkable achievement for our forces. UNP has to make a decision-on which side they are-Sri Lanka’s or Tigers’?

US Foreign policy and its impact on the world

The Bush administrations which  includes Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, who could have been soul mates of Stalin and other detestable politicians that have inflicted themselves on our world, have brought  back the Cold War by unnecessarily provoking the Russian Federation through the placement of missile batteries on the borders of Russia with the help of the Georgian and Polish governments and plunged the whole planet into a perilous situation which could even result in a nuclear war and the feared Armageddon.

Attacks abroad strengthen Mahinda’s image at home

Nearly 20 years ago my late brother Mervyn told me of a fascinating encounter he had with the then President Premadasa. If I remember correctly now, during this one –to- one meeting that lasted some 2 ½ hours Mervyn had the impression that President Premadasa actually enjoyed India’s criticism of him and the attacks against him by the Indian media. In fact President Premadasa seemed to invite criticism by sometimes actually baiting India. This was at the height of the JVP inspired anarchy that appeared to grip the country, and Premadasa wanted to legitimise his rule by being seen as a true nationalist demanding Indian troops quit Sri Lanka.

Call for a political solution now fades away

The President of the Tamil United Liberation Front, Veerasingham Anandasangaree on July 28 has called on the leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE), Velupillai Pirabaharan to declare a permanent ceasefire with the Sri Lankan Government surrendering his organization’s arms in the wake of the SAARC summit.

Importance of the Indian PM’s visit To Sri Lanka

The 15th SAARC summit in Colombo concluded on Sunday with grandiose proclamations being made on combating terrorism and finding solutions to the food and energy crises facing the region. The summit concluded without any major glitch and was an overall success despite a few embarrassments here and there including the security lapses on India’s National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan at the BMICH on Saturday and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Presidential Secretariat the previous day.
