Kilinochchi railway station comes under Army control

Sri Lanka Army 57 Division troops now in the process of liberating Kilinochchi town have taken control over the Kilinochchi railway station short while ago (Jan 2).

According to the battlefields reports troops of 571 Brigade lead by Lieutenant Colonel Harendra Ranasinghe have beaten off the terrorists from the area in an intense battle.


Sri Lanka Government announces drastic rate cuts to bring down the cost of living in 2009

At a special Cabinet meeting held yesterday evening, Sri Lanka Government announced massive rate cuts on many items, including fuel and gas, which will take effect from today.
This announcement was made after a special Cabinet summoned by Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse in order to discuss several urgent issues pertaining to the cost of living for the coming year.

Sri Lanka Government is planning to launch a US Dollar 4 billion eco-friendly mega tourism project in 2009.

According to Bernard Goonatileke, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Board and Chairman of the Kalpitya Integerated Tourism Development Board, arrangements are completed to launch to turn Kalpitya as the tourist destination for high spenders.
